Former Paralympic Swimmer Shows Support For Dream Making Charity

Retired Paralympic swimmer Fran Williamson has become a patron for the South Wales based charity Follow Your Dreams. Fran was born with Athetoid Cerebral Palsy; a condition affecting muscle tone. In her ten years competing for Great Britain, she competed in three World Championships and two Paralympic Games. She has achieved twelve World Championship and six Paralympic medals.

Folllow Your Dreams CEO Diane Blackmore said: “Fran’s involvement is great news for our charity as it’s important we present inspirational people to the children we work with, to stimulate interest, and develop their aspirations to truly follow their dreams and achieve their goals.”

Diane continued: “The work that we do is intrinsically linked to Fran’s own principles and working goals. We are delighted to welcome Fran to the Follow Your Dreams family and look forward to working together. The London 2012 Paralympics helped to break the stereotypes of disability, followed of course by a hugely successful but less publicised Sochi 2014 Winter Paralympics.”

“I was really excited when Diane contacted me.” Said Fran Williamson. “A large part of the work I do is to try and encourage people to step outside of their comfort zone and work out what they would really want to do. I know first-hand how hard it can be to look beyond what you cannot do and find things you can do or even finding a different ways of doing things you thought you couldn’t do. It is amazing what you can achieve with a little self-belief and confidence.  I hope, as a patron, I can get involved and inspire these things.  I am also positive that I will be inspired by the work of Follow Your Dreams. You’re never too young, or too old, to have goals and dreams.”

The other patrons of the Follow Your Dreams charity include Wales and Lions scrum-half Mike Phillips, former Bucks Fizz star Cheryl Baker and Otto Baxter;an aspiring UK actor who has Down Syndrome and Tourettes.
