First 100 signed up for £20M programme to create 10,000 jobs

The first 100 companies across Wales have signed up to the Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme aimed at driving forward rapid growth for businesses and entrepreneurs which is delivered by the Excelerator Consortium, as part of the new Business Wales suite of support for SMEs and Entrepreneurs. The Consortium consists of high-growth entrepreneurial coaching firms Winning Pitch and Impact Innovation.

The Consortium recently secured the £20m contract to deliver the  Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme, which is funded by the Welsh Government and European Regional Development Fund and has seen a hugely positive uptake in the initial few months of the contact.

Primary targets of the programme include generating over £200m in export sales and creating over 10,000 jobs as well as nurturing companies to a 20% growth rate or a £2m turnover within three years. The six year contract is results based and comes with several stringent targets that are designed to bring the Welsh economy in line with other UK regions.

Development Director of the Excelerator Consortium Steve Young said “To be selected by the Welsh Government to deliver this important programme was exciting and to then achieve 100 quality clients and high-growth potential firms registrations  in the first few months of the contract is outstanding.”

“The Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme offers a real, tangible answer to the question of how we boost the Welsh economy, and will bring us closer in line to the rest of the UK. The programme aligns perfectly with the ethos of Winning Pitch, where we nurture and guide Welsh companies who have the ability to see rapid growth across many different sectors”.

“We have worked with the Welsh Government before as part of their High Potential Starts Programme where we were responsible for 80% of the total output. We are excited by the prospect of making a progressive and lasting impact on the Welsh economy.”

Swansea-based Something Different Wholesale has joined the programme, and Managing Director Jane Wallace-Jones said: “We have exciting opportunities to grow rapidly over the next few years; with doubling the size of our business a key aim in the near future. The Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme is giving us access to experienced entrepreneurs who’ve been on a similar high growth journey themselves as well as input from first class professional advisers.”

The Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme offers individual support to high-growth businesses by appointing coaches who have a track record of delivering growth focused results. AGP companies are individually supported with highly specialist, bespoke mentoring, that helps scaffold a business toward its goals. The companies are also given access to professional advisory services such as legal, IT, corporate finance and HR as well as management development classes, exclusive deals and full Welsh Government support.
