Volunteer for Follow Your Dreams David Preece will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon in aid of the charity this Sunday. The 21 year old volunteer has learning difficulties but hasn’t let it stand in the way of him competing in the race for the Children’s Charity.
“Since Follow Your Dreams started helping him, he has worked so hard as a fundraiser and volunteer.” says Diane Blackmore, Chief Executive of Follow Your Dreams. “He has done a great deal for the charity including the Pen y Fan Walk, Cardiff 10k and helped with a charity choral concert. We are so proud that he’s taking part in the Cardiff Half on behalf of the charity.”
“I have been training for a few months and going to the gym most days.” says David Preece, 21. “I’ve been going jogging with my Personal Assistant or with my mum whilst she rides alongside me on her bike. I also have a running buddy, Sue Lane, who I have been meeting at Cardiff Bay for regular practice runs and she has been amazingly supportive. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me as I would not have been able to do it without their help.”
Sue Lane, is running the Cardiff Half herself for Follow Your Dreams as well as helping David train. “David has definitely been keeping me on my toes with both with the training for the Cardiff 10km and then these training sessions.” says Sue Lane. “He’s also shown a keen interest in the nutrition behind fuelling for long runs. It’s great to see such enthusiasm and I’m learning a lot from him regarding his learning difficulties and how he’s applied himself to improve himself. He’s a real inspiration.”
David Preece has set up a Just Giving page to raise money for Follow Your Dreams: https://www.justgiving.com/
