Children’s Charity Starts New Support Group

Church Village based charity Follow Your Dreams has recently set up a support and play group for children with disabilities and their parents. Little Dreamers has been started by volunteers in Church Village but is looking to expand and have groups in a number of locations in the UK.

Little Dreamers welcomes children with both learning and physical disabilities as well as children requiring additional support and their siblings.  It’s a place where children are introduced to a variety of activities adapted to their needs. Their initial function is to provide a party setting, where children can come along and enjoy arts, crafts, music and dance, and generally just have fun. In the long term the group aspires to provide outings, short breaks and workshops whilst operating out of their own centres.

Little Dreamers has been shortlisted for the Lloyds Bank Community Fund 2014 in Llanishen. The public are entitled to vote for the grant which will be up to £3,000 and will enable the group to continue doing good work in the community. This money will go to improving the running of the group and will provide much needed support and facilities.

Diane Blackmore, Chief Executive at Follow Your Dreams commented: “The Lloyds Bank Community Fund will make a huge difference to Little Dreamers by enabling us to kick start this fabulous project in the Cardiff area, making a difference to the lives of many young people with learning and physical disabilities. Every vote counts so we would be eternally grateful if you took the time to vote for Little Dreamers to benefit from the Community Fund award.”

The Lloyds Bank Community Fund was set up to help local people across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man to have a positive impact at the heart of their community by giving grants to up to 1,400 local good causes in 350 communities. There are four good causes shortlisted in each community and Lloyds Bank is inviting everyone to vote for the causes they’d most like to support.

Members of the public can vote for their preferred community group on-line, by SMS (text VOTE LXR to 61119) or Twitter (Tweet #CommFund LXR), or in a branch of Lloyds bank from 2 September to 10 October 2014. The local good cause that receives most votes in each community will receive an award of £3,000, with the other groups receiving £2,000, £1,000 or £500 depending on the votes received.

You can find out more about the Community Fund and Little Dreamers and cast your vote by visiting the Lloyds Bank Community Fund website at: www.lloydsbank.com/communityfund.
