Bereavement charity 2 Wish Upon A Star is holding their annual charity bike ride on the 29th and 30th May. Over 240 people have signed up to raise money for the charity and will be cycling 120 miles from Taunton to Miskin over the two days. The previous two cycle events succeeded in raising over £10,000 for the charity.
“This is one of our main fundraising events and the money we raise makes a huge difference to the work of 2 Wish Upon A Star,” said Rhian Burke, Founder of 2 Wish Upon A Star. “We strive for it to be a very enjoyable and social event while remaining a big fundraising event for our charity. We are so lucky to have such dedicated people who are willing to give their time and money to help us fundraise at this event.”
Coaches and bike transport will be provided to take participants to the start line outside Queens College in Taunton. On the first day participants will be cycling from Taunton to Portishead where overnight accommodation will be provided before the cyclists undertake the last stretch on the second day from Portishead to Miskin.
“Every year it’s a wonderful experience and is once again promising to be a very special event involving 240 cyclists varying in ability,” continued Mrs Burke. “It’s the cyclists who are very inexperienced who have chosen to really challenge themselves that make me so emotional each year. It’s a real team effort and brings together everyone in a special community. It’s going to be extra special this year finishing outside the church where my husband Paul and son George were laid to rest.”
Creigiau Travel are supporting 2 Wish Upon A Star by providing coaches to take participants from Miskin to Taunton and Raven Express will be providing vans to transport the bikes.
2 Wish Upon A Star was first established in 2012 by founder Rhian Burke to raise money for the improvement of bereavement services for families who have suffered the sudden loss of a child. The money raised for the charity goes towards helping those who are in need of immediate shock and trauma support and to improve the bereavement facilities in local hospitals and Accident and Emergency departments.
