Welsh charity 2 Wish Upon A Star has relocated to new offices in Talbot Green. The charity was set up two years ago by Rhian Burke to raise funds for the improvement of bereavement services in South Wales, placing emphasis on support for families after they have lost a child suddenly and traumatically.
“We really wanted a place where anyone can just pop in.” says Mrs Burke, Founder and Project Manager at 2 Wish Upon A Star. “We wanted to connect with the community and be easily accessible for families. It was also important to us to have a good base to hold meetings with the many people we work with which include outside agencies and police officers. A new premises was the next logical step to show that we are dedicated to developing the charity and really making a difference in people’s lives.”
The charity will be holding counselling sessions at their new offices with a trained counsellor for people who have been affected by the loss of a child. They will also be holding a monthly support group from 10am to 11.30am every first Friday of the month for parents and a session every last Friday of the month for grandparents.
“We have kindly been donated our new work space by Cyfoes Healthcare run by Andrea Evans.” continues Mrs Burke. “Andrea was the nurse who looked after myself and my family when my little boy George passed away, so we have a very special bond and friendship as a result of this and we now enjoy working alongside one another. We want it to be a place that people are not afraid to pop in for help. If we can’t help, we are here to signpost families to others who possibly can during the most difficult times.”
In the future the charity hopes to employ staff to support the running of 2 Wish Upon A Star and hopes to have a property of their own where counselling and support groups can continue to run.
