Bereavement Charity Assist Family In Their Equipment Donation To UHW

Bereavement charity 2 Wish Upon A Star have assisted Deri Bond and her partner Aaron Wyatt in their efforts to provide a cold bed for the University Hospital of Wales.

The couple’s daughter Cayla Bond Wyatt tragically passed away in May of last year after a severely premature birth. The family have since been raising money for the equipment in order to donate it to the hospital in the memory of their little girl.

A cold bed is a piece of medical equipment that acts as a refrigerated bassinet, allowing babies and children who have passed away to stay in the room with their parents and loved ones preserving their appearance and allowing the family time to say goodbye. The cold bed will be used for babies and children specifically in the A and E department of the hospital who have died suddenly.

“Deri and her family wanted to do something in memory of their baby girl,” said Rhian Burke, Founder of 2 Wish Upon A Star. “Our charity’s focus and passion is on the support parents receive after losing their child suddenly, so we came together with Deri and Aaron will be donating this piece of equipment in memory of Cayla.”

2 Wish Upon A Star was first established in 2012 by founder Rhian Burke to raise money for the improvement of bereavement services for families who have suffered the sudden loss of a child. The money raised for the charity goes towards helping those who are in need of immediate shock and trauma support and to improve the bereavement facilities in local hospitals and Accident and Emergency departments.

“As a bereaved parent, spending time with your child and saying a proper goodbye after you have lost them suddenly is crucial to help with the healing process.” Continued Mrs Burke. “I often think about the room where we said our final goodbyes to our son George, even things such as the smell and the pictures on the wall stand out in my memory, so every small detail is important.”

They will be presenting the equipment next week on Wednesday 29th April 11.30am at Accident and Emergency department in University Hospital Wales.
